For over 20 years the Special Events Committee of KCHC has been removing barriers to bring community together.
Hundreds of people attend our affordable trips each year. Many of the children/families/individuals who participate in these are living in low-income households who, without fundraising efforts, would not be able participate in trips outside of their immediate area. Although funding is difficult to secure for transportation, the testimonials of our families’ let us know that trips away create cherished memories as well as provide exposure to new ideas, concepts, and geographical area.
Over 1,000 people attend the free community events that the Special Events Committee organized annually. By bringing other community agencies, organizations, service clubs and businesses together we provide a fun filled afternoon for community while providing our community partners an opportunity to share their services information with community members thus creating social connections for support . Integrating all populations is key for happy cohesive communities, removing financial barriers and making all trips and events accessible creates equity.
The Special Events Committee is comprised of community volunteers dedicated to bringing the community together through special outings and events. Together the committee secures thousands of dollars to meet their goals. With the support of one Community Health Team staff the Special Events Committee’s work creates the opportunities for happy family memories and social inclusion.
