Learn practical strategies to improve health literacy and support patients in understanding health information, making informed decisions, and taking an active role in their care.

This workshop covers fundamental health literacy concepts and practical communication skills, including plain language, teach-back, ask-offer-ask, and effective use of health resources and materials.

You will learn how to:

  • Understand health literacy and its impact on care
  • Create a welcoming and supportive care environment
  • Use plain language in written and verbal communication
  • Use teach-back to confirm understanding
  • Apply ask-offer-ask in patient conversations
  • Support patients and families to participate more fully in their care

Eligibility: Due to funding requirements, this workshop is available only to Ontario residents.

Facilitated by the Self-Management Program of Southeastern Ontario and hosted by Kingston Community Health Centres.
