FREE workshop of 6 weeks helps to actively achieve your best wellness and to give you a greater sense of control over life with cancer.

This is a 6-week online class, once a week on Monday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm EST, from September 23 to November 4, 2024. There will be no session on Thanksgiving Day. Due to funding regulations, registration will be limited to residents of Southeast Ontario.

The Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop helps individuals gain skills, resources and confidence to better manage their health and daily life. This FREE six-week workshop helps people to actively achieve their best health and wellness, as well as provides them with a greater sense of control over life with cancer.

This workshop is for adults who live with cancer, are survivors, and/or their family, friends or caregivers. Participants meet in a small virtual group via Zoom Meeting for 2.5 hours, once a week for 6 weeks, and will also receive a free copy of the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions. This will be shipped directly to you. The workshops are led by two trained leaders who are usually volunteers who have lived with or been otherwise affected by cancer themselves.

Participants report improvement in their lifestyle and general health, as well as improved symptom management and better communication with their doctors. They also spend less time in the hospital compared to those who have not taken the workshop.

This workshop is an evidence-based self-management program originally developed at Stanford University and currently supported by the Self-Management Resource Center.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain, isolation, poor sleep and living with uncertainty
  • Appropriate exercise for regaining and maintaining flexibility, and endurance
  • Making decisions about treatment and complementary therapies
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Nutrition
  • Setting priorities
  • Relationships

Please note that your registration information provided here will be shared with the facilitators in order to contact you solely about workshop events.
