This 60-90 minute self-paced online course introduces the core principles of trauma-informed care (TIC) and its role in creating person-centered, high-quality systems. Learn about trauma, resilience, and universal design while gaining practical skills to apply TIC principles in real-world settings. You can complete the majority of the coursework at your own pace online.

This course is focused on system-level precautions, and does not teach clinical skills or therapeutic modalities for screening or treating people suffering from the effects of trauma.

  • Review the physiological impacts and high prevalence of trauma
  • Explore the principles of TIC and universal design
  • Consider how TIC as universal design benefits all users
  • Analyze how current processes, environments or interactions that are central to your job could be improved through a lens of trauma-informed practice and make recommendations for improvement
