Our Regional Self-Management (RSM) Program is a resource you can refer clients to and one you can access yourself. Although the program is offered across Ontario, our local team is dedicated to supporting residents of Southeastern Ontario (stretching west past Brighton, north past Bancroft, and east past Brockville).
The program offers free self-management workshops, funded by the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health atHome. Most are delivered virtually and do not require a referral, making them easy to access. Participants can register themselves and join from home or attend in person when available.
“Our workshops help individuals build the confidence and skills to manage their health day to day, which can reduce unnecessary doctor visits,” says Program Coordinator Ashley Wightman. “With better tools and knowledge, people are more in control of their health and spend less time in appointments and more time living their lives. This benefits not only individuals and their caregivers, but also our busy healthcare system.”
Who is the program for?
RSM workshops support individuals living with ongoing health conditions, their families and caregivers, and healthcare practitioners. Common topics include chronic or persistent pain, diabetes, sleep difficulties, neurodivergence, living with a disability, mental health challenges, cancer, and digestive issues.
Workshops are facilitated by trained peer leaders with lived experience. Participants often describe learning alongside others who “get it” as a powerful and supportive experience.
“We’re particularly excited about workshops for healthcare practitioners,” says Community Liaison Zoe McDonald. “They offer informative content and are a meaningful addition to professional development.”
