Weller Clinic’s Family Health Educators (FHEs) promote family and childhood health outcomes, with a focus on early and school years. Through a variety of interventions such as counselling, system navigation supports, education, and knowledge transfer sessions, the family health educators provide care to parents in one-on-one and group settings. Working in a multidisciplinary setting, the FHE promotes skills to enhance resiliency with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds. Working with an understanding of the social determinants of health, inclusiveness, equity, social justice, and trauma informed care, the FHE assists clients to find solutions to achieve health-related goals for themselves and their families. Some examples of the work done by the FHE include, but is not exclusive to introduction to solids, toddler picky eating, speech and language development, baby care basics, prenatal intake and support, breastfeeding and lactation consultancy. To access support from a FHE, patients can ask for a referral from their primary care provider or can contact us directly.
